Ships Cook Program

Launch your culinary career and sail as a cook on a seagoing vessel in excess of 20 meters in length. Learn foundational cooking skills with this internationally recognised STCW and STCW-F accredited cooks course endorsed by South African Marine Safety Authority (SAMSA). Iron Wood Training Academy has international certified and professional qualified instructors that will teach you culinary fundamentals for efficient meal preparation for small to large groups. Discover the art of cooking and learn about menu planning, stock control, food hygiene, storage and safety, balanced nutritional ingredient selection, general galley safety, disposal of garbage on board a commercial vessel.

Cook Program Level 1

Our Cook Program is the perfect fit for you if you’re looking to begin working as a Cook or a Chef De Partie in a professional kitchen. In this program you will learn the skills and techniques you’ll need, using a variety of teaching methods to help you get the most out of your program. Each of your classes will include a mix of theory, and hands-on learning designed to reinforce your skill sets and perform at your best, as a Cook or Chef De Partie in a commercial kitchen.

Baker Program

If you’ve got a knack for whipping up gourmet baked goods and want to start making money from your skill with a career as a baker our Baker Program combines hands-on training with the business skills necessary to work in a bakery or restaurant. Students learn skills such as cake, pastry production, bread and dessert making and other industry techniques. They also learn about the types of equipment in restaurants, hotels, bakeries and pastry shops and will have plenty of opportunities to try them out.
